On July 2, I started my internship at Kontoor Brands, Inc. It is a global apparel company, best known for its brands Wrangler, Lee, and Helly Hansen. At first, I was a little nervous, but also very excited. Now, after two months and about 45 working days, I can say this internship was full of learning, teamwork, and great memories.
The Beginning
In the first week, I met with HR and joined my first meetings with the Responsible Sourcing team. I got access to tools like Smartsheet, Sharepoint, Power BI, and LinkedIn Learning. Everything felt new, but step by step, I started to understand. I learned about Kontoor’s sourcing system and also completed important courses on labor rights and workplace practices etc.
Learning by Doing
Most of my work was with audit data. I cleaned and analyzed data, created dashboards, and worked on reports. Slowly, I got better at using Power BI, Power Query, and Excel.
Some of the things I learned were:
- Learned about Kontoor’s 5-tier sourcing system and its focus on transparency
- How to create dashboards and risk maps in Power BI
- How to combine and compare data from different quarters and regions
- How to use statistics like central limit theorem, z-scores, margin of error, and sampling
- How to use VBA macro for automating data work
- How to prepare reports in a professional format
I also joined many meetings with teams from Hong Kong, Kenya, and Bangladesh. These meetings helped me understand how global teams work together and share knowledge.
Building the Risk Map
One of the most exciting parts was building a Risk Map Dashboard. It showed issues, severity levels, and comparisons across factories and regions. With feedback from my supervisors, I improved the design and added new features. Later, I also worked on automation tools to make the process faster and easier for future use.
Beyond Work
This internship was not only about tools and reports. It was also about people and culture. The Responsible Sourcing team was always supportive. They shared feedback, gave guidance, and made me feel part of the team.
I also had chances to visit a factory with auditors, and join knowledge-sharing sessions. These small moments made the whole experience special.
The End and Reflections
In the last week, we shared our final presentation with senior management. We showed our research, dashboard, and future ideas. It felt good to see our work appreciated.
On my last day, there was a small farewell ceremony. I received my internship certificate and a gift. It was a simple but meaningful moment.
Looking back, these two months taught me more than I expected. I learned about data, risk management, and compliance. But I also learned about teamwork, communication, and responsibility.
Internship Memories
Here’s a short reel I created, capturing some moments from my journey at Kontoor:
